Our Mission
BuzzyAfrica is a pan-African digital news platform delivering timely, accurate, and engaging journalism in English and French. We cover politics, business, sports, entertainment, technology, and culture across all 54 African nations and the diaspora. Our editorial mission is to amplify African voices, provide context that international media often overlooks, and serve readers who care about the continent's progress and challenges.
Editorial Standards
Every article published on BuzzyAfrica adheres to the following principles:
- Accuracy — We verify facts before publication using multiple sources. When errors occur, we correct them promptly and transparently. All corrections are documented on our Corrections page.
- Fairness — We present multiple perspectives on contentious issues and give subjects of critical coverage the opportunity to respond. We do not prejudge outcomes of legal or political proceedings.
- Independence — Our editorial decisions are made independently of commercial, political, or other external pressures. Advertising content is clearly separated from editorial content.
- Transparency — We clearly identify sources, distinguish between news and opinion, and disclose any potential conflicts of interest. When sources request anonymity, we explain why in the article.
- Dignity — We do not publish content that dehumanizes individuals or communities. We avoid stereotypical or reductive portrayals of African peoples, nations, and cultures.
AI-Assisted Content
BuzzyAfrica uses AI-assisted tools in parts of its editorial workflow. Specifically:
- Content processing — Some articles are produced using AI tools that rewrite and expand upon news reports from established sources such as AllAfrica, RFI, BBC, and other credentialed news organizations. These tools help us process and contextualize a high volume of African news.
- Image generation — Article images may be generated using AI when original photography is unavailable. AI-generated images are used for illustrative purposes only and do not depict real events or individuals unless clearly labeled.
- Human oversight — All AI-assisted content undergoes editorial review for accuracy, tone, and adherence to our standards. Our editorial team reviews headlines, factual claims, and source attribution.
We believe AI tools can help bridge the resource gap that limits African media coverage. We are transparent about their use and continuously refine our processes to maintain editorial quality.
Source Attribution
When our articles are based on reporting from other news organizations, we always credit the original source with a link at the end of the article. We believe in supporting the broader journalism ecosystem across Africa. Source organizations include but are not limited to: AllAfrica, Premium Times, RFI Afrique, Jeune Afrique, TechCabal, News24, Daily Monitor, France 24, and Koaci.
Content Guidelines
- We do not publish hate speech, incitement to violence, or discriminatory content targeting any group.
- We avoid stereotypical or reductive portrayals of African peoples and nations.
- We maintain geographic diversity in our coverage across the continent, ensuring representation of all regions including West, East, Central, North, and Southern Africa.
- Headlines are crafted to be informative and factual, with specific data (names, numbers, locations). We do not use clickbait language (BREAKING, SHOCKING, EXCLUSIVE, curiosity gaps).
- Opinion and analysis pieces are clearly labeled and separated from news reporting.
- We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. Sponsored content, if any, is clearly marked as such.
Fact-Checking Process
Our fact-checking process includes:
- Cross-referencing claims with at least two independent sources when possible.
- Verifying statistical data with original reports from institutions such as the African Development Bank, World Bank, UN agencies, and national statistics offices.
- Confirming quotes and attributions with the original reporting source.
- Reviewing article context for completeness and balance.
